I recently replied to an inquiry about my truck submitted by an interested party. After answering their questions in great detail I thought that I would share that information, linked from the listing, so others would be able to find the answers to questions they had.
I don’t know yet if the interested party will follow through on their response so far as pursuing it’s purchase.
I worked as a sales manager for an auto sales company for 25 years before retiring and I have always practiced the First Come, First Served sales policy.
if it sells I will update my listing immediately, if you are interested and want me to hold it for you until you can complete your purchase, a maximum of ten business days, I will accept a 10% non-refundable deposit to provide you with that time.
When you complete your purchase the full deposit amount will be credited to the total purchase price.
The first question asked was if I thought the truck would run reliably from my location to Seattle, Washington:
This truck runs great, I’ve driven it to and from Seattle several times while I’ve owned it.
I usually took along a little camp trailer with me and stayed at a campsite over in Bainbridge Island.
We’d catch the ferry across to Seattle and walk to and from the Seahawks games.
The following offer is extended to anyone who purchases my truck:
If you decide you want it, I’ll take it over to my shop and have the guys change the oil and put a new fuel filter in at the same time.
I generally change them both at the same time anyways.
I have reliably changed the oil every 6000 miles since I bought it over 20 years ago.
The gentleman I bought it from is a nationally recognized fishing guide who is based out of the town where I live.
He did the same thing with the oil change too.
I know that because I was the sales manager for the business that serviced and repaired most all of the diesel rigs around here and he was a regular customer there.
The shop has an RV and Auto Sales lot in addition to their repair shop. https://FlorenceRV.com
I worked as sales manager there for over 25 years and still keep up their website for them.
The owner has always provided me with free oil and fuel filter changes and treated me right whenever I needed repairs.
I will also make mention that I’ve treated my fuel tanks with Lucas diesel fuel treatment from the start as well.
The application of the Lucas diesel fuel additive is highly recommended, especially in older diesel fuel systems and is known to prevent sediment from collecting in the tanks or affecting fuel flow, in addition it cleans the injectors and boosts the octane for increased mileage.
The following information was in response to questions about any known issues or problems and the general condition of the components, transmission, brakes, axles, 4×4 system, tires, or anything else that might present any concerns.
Speaking of all my repairs being provided by this same outfit, In the rare occasions I have had to have my truck towed in, their tow truck is the only tow truck that my trucks ever been moved with.
I have replaced components as needed with new and not refurbished parts. The items that quickly come to mind are the starter, alternator, air conditioner pump, brake master cylinder, batteries, glow plugs and new tires as they were needed.
I’ve upgraded a number of things as well, mirrors, headlights and taillights, running lights and backup lights, stereo system which is discussed in detail elsewhere.
If I had broken down in Seattle, or some other far away place, I never did, but if I had, they would have dispatched his tow truck to come and get me.
I’ve only had one tech work on my truck that wasn’t with his shop, and that was a tech, that had worked for him before going on his own.
In response to your question about the status of the title, yes, I do have a clean title.
Also in regard to your questions regarding rust. No it does not have any rust problems related to coastal living.
It was well undercoated by its original owner who also lives on the coast and I’ve kept it washed and waxed regularly since I first bought it.
I still get compliments on how nice it looks it everywhere I go.
I am obviously a Seahawks freak, and have themed the truck with Seahawks decorations. The truck colors match the Seahawks blue, white and gray stripes.
The vinyl Seahawks decals can easily be removed and replaced and replacements are all still available from vendors on eBay.
I put a new in dash multi-function Stereo system, in it a couple of years ago.
It has a slide out and pop up 7” LED touch screen, with GPS, AM/FM RADIO, Handsfree telephone system, Apple or Android compatible, a DVD player. There are also SD/USB port access points. It also has a built in graphics equalizer and is wired into the trucks factory speaker system.
The seats are cloth and are all still in good shape. I have kept seat covers on them to preserve them.
I bought new fobs to replace the original one that finally quit working.
I have to bypass the program chip I bought for it, in order to get the truck to go into programming mode, which is necessary in order to train the fobs.
I also bought two new door lock cylinders with a set of matching keys.
They need to be put in, which is a relatively simple task, but the older I get the more I realize that the simple isn’t quite so simple anymore.
I also bought a set of new electric door lock motors that I’ll send with.
I bought those thinking if I had the inner door skin off I may as well replace them too. The current set work fine.
Last but not least, the left front corner of the drivers seat frame has come loose. There is a bolt and washer adapter that came apart and needs to be repaired.
It doesn’t look like it will take much to fix it, but as I mentioned already, I’m just getting older and what used to be simple isn’t so simple anymore.
The seat is fully electric and both front seats have the air compressor lumbar support bags in them and are still working fine.
I’m trying to be as complete as I can be about everything that I can think of.
The truck has 195000 miles on it, the transmission works perfectly, brakes all work, no leaks in the system.
The brakes do grab a little if they get wet or if it’s been setting out in the weather and there’s moisture in the air.
They will grab the first time or two you apply them but work perfectly thereafter.
Historically this drive train is known run reliably for about 400000 plus miles following recommended maintenance.
If you care for them and maintain them like myself and many others have, with the 6000 mile oil changes, the Lucas fuel system treatment, addressing issues as they occur and not postponing them until more serious issues develop, these truck have been known to run reliably for over a million miles.
The present tires have well less than 5000 miles on them.
I bought them from a couple in Coos Bay who bought a new truck and wanted another brand of tires on it, so they pulled these and called me to come pick them up when they were available.
If you can think of any other questions, feel free to just ask, or if I recall anything else I’ll let you know.
I’m trying to provide you and others with the same answers and information that I would hope someone else would provide for me if I were in the same position and purchasing their vehicle.
I will be in this position whenever someone opts to purchase my truck.
I’ll be purchasing a car for my wife and I to drive in its place.
She can’t drive my truck and it’s getting harder all the time for me to get in and out.
Which reminds me. I bought a nice set of chrome smurf bars to make stepping in and out easier, if whoever buys my truck want’s them, I’ll toss them in with the deal no charge. I’ll never use them going forward.
Thank you for all of your inquiries, I hope I’ve exceeded your expectations in answering your questions.
If you have additional concerns, questions or need for more information, feel free message me. jscotttodd@gmail.com
